Season, time, humidity, weather, and location…
The sea of clouds is a rare natural
phenomenon
that only reveals itself under certain conditions.
But that breathtaking scenery can be witnessed within Tokyo
thanks to a fusion of
traditional craftsmanship
and modern technology.
2025 commemorates a century since the relocation of the Three-Story Pagoda
"Pagoda in the Clouds"
From January 8, 2025, year-round
The Three-Story Pagoda wasmoved from Takamurayama Chikurinji Temple in Higashi-Hiroshima to Chinzanso in
1925,
and will celebrate a century watching over the garden in 2025.
The previous location of the Three-Story Pagoda was in fact the site of a naturally occurring sea of
clouds.
It is said that Ono no Takamura, a Heian-period bureaucrat and poet associated with Chikurinji Temple,
looked over the cityscape from the Three-Story Pagoda and composed a poem,
"Here and there, the
mountains appear like islands in a sea of fog amongTakamura Village."
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the relocation, this scenery has been newly reinterpreted at
Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo.
We hope that guests will enjoy the striking view of the Three-Story Pagoda
towering above the clouds.
Visits to the hotel can be enjoyed with friends,
a partner, children, or
alone.
For lunch, dinner, tea time,
or on a special anniversary.
The sea of clouds
welcomes you at any time,
so you can plan your visit freely
to include activities,
the hotel, and the sea of clouds
to suit your enjoyment.
Entry to the garden is reserved for guests making use of the hotel facilities.
A natural sea of clouds only appears under specific weather conditions, but the Tokyo Sea of Clouds can be enjoyed at any hour of the day. Drop by the hotel any time you’d like to experience it.
In addition to 1,000 light bulbs illuminating the trees throughout the garden, the shading lights coloring the sea of clouds change from season to season for a truly magical vision.

Although a manmade phenomenon,
the Tokyo Sea of Clouds presents
a different vision each day
in response to things like weather,
humidity, and wind.
With white, thick clouds on windless days, drifting mist among the
wind,
or shafts of light and rainbows on sunny days, each day is unique!
With each season, and in response to sunlight, rain, wind, and humidity, the sea of clouds is affected by nature on each day. Each visit will greet you with a unique sight.
- ・The Tokyo Sea of Clouds is complemented by camellias and cherry blossoms in February and March, fireflies in May and June, and red foliage in December.
